Description
Panic disorder is a prevalent anxiety disorder characterised by recurrent, unexpected panic attacks, often accompanied by severe physical and cognitive symptoms such as heart palpitations, catastrophising thoughts, and avoidance behaviours. This mini-course explores the multifaceted causes of panic disorder, including biological, psychological, and environmental factors, as well as subtypes like nocturnal and situational panic disorders. It also examines common comorbidities, such as depression and other anxiety disorders. Treatment approaches, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), pharmacotherapy with SSRIs or SNRIs, and emerging tools like mobile applications and virtual reality therapy, are discussed to provide a comprehensive understanding of evidence-based care.
This mini-course is based on the Educational Update Session presented at the ECNP Congress in Milan, 21-24 September 2024, making this highly regarded session accessible on-demand for everyone with a myECNP account.
