Description
This mini-course explores the risk factors, early indicators, and neurobiological characteristics of individuals at high familial risk for psychotic disorders, such as offspring of parents with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. It covers the cognitive and clinical features observed from childhood to adulthood, highlighting the elevated rates of psychopathology and comorbidities in these populations. The course also examines transdiagnostic approaches to assessing mental health risks, considering both psychological and biological factors, including the role of early adverse experiences and cannabis use. Prevention and intervention strategies, tailored to developmental stages, are discussed, with a focus on early identification and psychosocial support.
This mini-course builds on the Educational Update Session presented at the ECNP Congress in Milan, 21-24 September 2024.
