Using smartphones to gain insights into patients’ everyday live dynamic symptomatology and momentary psychopathological processes
Organised by the ECNP Digital Health Network.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a complex mental health condition characterized by pervasive patterns of instability in affect, self-image, interpersonal relationships, and impulsive behavior. Often emerging in adolescence or early adulthood, BPD is associated with heightened difficulty regulating emotions and impulsivity, leading to intense and fluctuating emotional states and dysfunctional coping behaviors, such as non-suicidal self-injurious behaviors. In my talk, I will outline the advantages of Ambulatory Assessment (AA) in research on patients with BPD and how using smartphones can help us to gain insights into patients’ everyday live dynamic symptomatology and momentary psychopathological processes. Thereby, I will present findings of our studies using subjective and objective measures in AA to examine how patients’ symptomatology evolves in daily life.
